SmartJob.com Helps You Network Professionally with Social Media Advice

Networking is one of the most important aspects of finding a job and growing in your career. In a world full of likes, shares, and tweets, it’s crucial to know how to maintain a professional networking presence in social media.  Smartjob.com helps you network professionally with advice from smartpeople at their timeline and through their own social media sites.

A Google search can easily reveal your social media profile. Be sure to remove any photos, statuses, or tweets that you don’t want your current or future employers to see. Your boss won’t be too happy to see that all the drinking you did last night gave you a “killer hangover” that you’ll be bringing to work. Also make sure to keep the work-related complaints to a minimum; never insult your boss or coworkers publicly. Not only is it rude, but it’ll catch up with you in the long run.

Tweet your way into your dream job with Twitter. Creating a Twitter handle like “NancyPR” makes it clear what your forte is and what you’re looking for. Follow companies that you’re interested in working with to build your network and discover openings.

LinkedIn is dubbed the “professional person’s Facebook” for a reason. However, knowing how to use LinkedIn efficiently is essential. Avoid using general skills like “team-player”, “multi-tasker”, and “communication skills”. Instead, use skills that show off your individual strengths. Be sure your profile is 100% complete, including the photo! A missing picture makes your profile less personable and shows that you may not be confident. Stick to a recent, professional headshot and as a good rule-of-thumb: if it’s on your Facebook, it’s probably not a suitable LinkedIn profile picture.

How Business is Adapting to a Design Driven World

Business is changing, and PRDA can help you build bridges between information and graphic design. The economy is no longer driven by information alone, but relies heavily on graphic design now as well. Simply put- businesses with well designed materials make more money. Design is constantly changing and updating, so keeping up with what consumers want is a full time job. This is where PRDA comes in.

Design is everywhere. With social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter growing exponentially, it is crucial to have an online presence. Having a well designed brand is only the beginning. Every business, especially small business, must carry their brand across a wide range of platforms. You can hand out business cards on the street all day and still only reach a small fraction of the business that social media will bring in. The internet and social networking target your specific audience, and then reel them in with aesthetics. Graphic design may seem like art, but in reality it is extremely deliberate and strategic. Business everywhere is changing to accommodate the consumers’ appetites for instant access. The only way to be successful is to join PRDA on the social media bandwagon.

The business world isn’t the only thing that’s changing. Graphic design professionals can no longer hide behind a computer screen playing with the pen tool. Design skills and business skills are converging. Without the ability to manage both, designers will soon find themselves out of work. Find out more about how design is changing in our next blog post!

Prevent Culture Clash in the Hong Kong Workplace

Smartjob.com knows you face international culture everyday. With Hong Kong’s history as a trade port, it has seen more cultural exposure than most other places in Asia. When conducting business, cross-cultural understanding is crucial. It is easy to cause unintended offense with miscommunication based on a traditional background.

When dealing with coworkers and clients from other places of the world, you should be aware of important cultural differences. In places like Germany, Scandinavia, and Australia, verbal communication is weighted heavily and conversation can sometimes be characterized as blunt. This is not the case in high-context Asian cultures where information is delivered less directly, sometimes relying on the unsaid message. In addition, the fast-paced nature of Hong Hong  may result in employees like yourself finding mainland business too slow. Another example is the handshake: a polite Asian handshake could appear limp to someone from North America where the strength of the handshake effects how assertive you seem.

Intercultural training and awareness can help foster successful international business. Social and business practices can be researched online for more intricate explanations of cultural differences. Gain insights into the conduct of coworkers, this is the first step to fostering a tolerant and sensitive workplace. Together, people of many backgrounds can work well when placed in a safe environment. Just remember to be aware and let your colleagues help guide you to proper cultural behavior.

How PRDA is Helping Business with Facebook Apps

PRDA, your total social media provider, is helping increase business with the use of apps for Facebook Pages. These are an extension of the Facebook platform where you can install third-party applications (apps) to increase interactivity. Four are always displayed under your cover image, and you can utilize up to 14 custom apps total.

Get the most out of your social media presence by using apps to link all your social media profiles together. You can link your Facebook to Twitter,  YouTube, LinkedIn, and many others. You can also link your blog to Facebook with the RSS app so fans can view the feeds in the same window. There are apps that load a functioning storefront on your Facebook page, allowing fans to buy your products without having to leave Facebook. You can also load offers and promotions, further enticing the client to buy your product/service. There are apps for polling, discussion boards, checking-in, and even apps that allow you to share presentations. If you want it on your timeline... there’s an app for that!

Carry your branding to the apps section to help users remember and recognize you in the future. Replacing basic app photos with custom thumbnails is important because apps have a prime real estate spot right under the cover photo, to the right of your profile photo. You can replace any app thumbnail with a custom photo as long as it is 111 x 74 pixels. You can also reorder the placement of these thumbnails. Put the important ones first to ensure they are seen.

Facebook users are always looking to interact. Draw potential customers into your page and ensure that your fans become repeat customers with the help of PRDA and Facebook apps.

How to Connect to Your Customers with PRDA and Facebook

PRDA can help you in small but extremely effective ways. Facebook is a powerful tool that can help you connect with your customers, but you have to work hard to earn those fans. There are a few ways you can create a rapport with your customers that helps them stick around. First, and easiest, is responding to your customers on Facebook. Second is utilizing messages for Facebook pages, and third is phrasing open questions in your status updates.

It seems like common sense, but responding to your customers can be the most effective way to connect with them. Your Facebook page is there for your patrons to gather information about your company, find out about events, and take part in your offers. It is easy for your Facebook page to become one-sided, and PRDA can help you work to entice customer interaction. When customers comment on a status update, respond! Knowing you hear them will help them build trust in your brand.

Facebook recently added the ability for businesses to message their customers privately and vice versa. In the top right of your admin panel, you can see your inbox. With the use of private messaging, you can now contact your customers directly, and privately. Why is this important? You can now follow up on contest offers, send thank-yous, and negotiate problems with customers. Fans can now send complaints privately, instead of posting on the main timeline. This makes damage control much easier for you. You can even message other business pages for collaboration!

Phrasing status updates is tricky; it is easy for them to sound like sales pitches. Once your brand is established, you want customers to come back over and over again. Return business is the foundation for any successful brand, and PRDA can help you accomplish that with good social media writing. When writing status updates, make some open ended questions. Take the example above, Dove asks their customers “...what to make for dinner?” By asking a question, their Facebook fans are far more likely to respond. This interaction builds a bridge between the brand and the fan. They feel more connected, and you get a return customer!

Communication is a two-way process. Social media is as powerful as it is because both the customer and the business get to talk to each other. PRDA can help you utilize this and watch your sales soar!
