Hong Kong is well-known across Asia for its ‘work hard, play hard’ culture, although increasingly for many it seems to lean more towards the “work hard” side. Long hours and a workaholic culture are starting to become the norm in our “hustle and bustle” city, as seen earlier this year when the South China Morning Post reported that Hong Kong had the longest working hours out of 71 cities, with “tens of thousands of people working 75 hours a week”.

Out in Hong Kong Tennis Open 2018


The 2018 Out in Hong Kong Tennis Open was hugely successful and a fun sporting event for the local LGBT+ community! Gay Games 11 Hong Kong 2022 is still some time away, and this friendly tennis competition was just the thing to get us revved up and in the sporting spirit. The second annual Out in Hong Kong Open tournament took place last month with three full days of tennis matches, including a singles competition and a special women’s only doubles division. A BIG heartfelt “Thank You” to all those that contributed in organizing, volunteering, and sponsoring this non-profit event that benefited so many-- more than 70 international and local players, all of our Hong  Kong LGBT+ community and friends, and over 5,000 Out in Hong Kong members.

Players from a variety of backgrounds and skill levels gathered for this fun 3 day event, meeting new tennis players, friends, and helping to support the LGBT+ community.

Hong Kong Awards, Seminars, Workshops and More A Busy and Inspirational Autumn for Cognatio Law



It has been a very busy few months for NewLaw firms in Hong Kong- at least for one of the major forces behind Hong Kong’s NewLaw boom, Cognatio Law CEO & co-founder Lesley Hobbs. Here are a few of the highlights from her very busy 2018 schedule:

In mid-October Lesley Hobbs attended #ZegalCon2018, Asia Pacific’s leading LegalTech conference. The seminar entitled "Decoding Blockchain: Challenges and Opportunities from a Legal Perspective", really highlighted how blockchain is transforming the legal industry. Successful Launch of 2018 Legal 500 GC Powerlist Hong Kong
The entire Cognatio Law team was delighted to attend the inaugural edition of The Legal 500 GC Powerlist Hong Kong Teams 2018. We are thrilled to be a sponsor of the very first HK edition from this prestigious series of legal directories, successfully launched at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on 18th October 2018. Eighth Annual Asia Women in Business Law Awards
In early November Lesley Hobbs attended the Eighth Annual Asia Women in Business Law Awards and was thrilled to see so many talented women gathered together in one room. Truly inspirational! Congratulations to all the nominees and winners of the eighth annual Asia Women in Business Law Awards. Kudos to Legal Media Group, Euromoney for celebrating and highlighting female legal talent across all corners of the world.


AIG’s "Celebrating Women in the Workplace" Event
Several days later she was inspired once again, this time by a motivating half day conference organised by AIG-- "Celebrating Women in the Workplace" highlighting how and why diversity is so important in the workplace. The event also supported a very worthy cause, with all profits going towards The Women's Foundation HK 婦女基金會 Financial Literacy Program! #CelebrateWomenAIGHKEX


15th Annual AmCham Women of Influence Awards
Another event that our CEO Lesley Hobbs was proud to attend was the AmCham 15th Women of Influence Conference and Awards 2018. A big shout out and congratulations to all this year’s nominees and winners. Let's all be influencers! #AmChamHKWOI
On 21st November Lesley Hobbs attended #BritChamHK sponsored seminar “The future of the professions as the machine era begins”. A very forward-thinking and thought-provoking seminar lead by David Moschella, Research Director of Leading Edge Forum. We recommend making time to read his book, Seeing Digital: A Visual Guide to the Industries, Organizations, and Careers of the 2020s. A must-read for today's business leaders!


#SheMeansBusiness Instagram workshop hosted by The Women's Foundation HK
Ending November on yet another inspired note, Lesley Hobbs attended the #SheMeansBusiness Instagram workshop sponsored by The Women's Foundation HK. Lesley is a truly inspirational leader, always looking for ways to improve her business skills and paying it forward.  A big thanks goes out to Facebook for supporting female entrepreneurs and to The Women's Foundation HK for its commitment to improving the lives of so many women and girls in Hong Kong.

Taiwan LGBT+ Games 2018 in Taichung


Important Update! The 2018 Taiwan LGBT+ Games have been postponed to 2019 June 28th - 30th. Due to the Taiwan referendum results, the Taiwan Gay Sports Association will be giving priority and the majority of their resources to their Equality events.

At Gay Games 11 Hong Kong 2022 we are all looking forward to the Taiwan LGBT+ Games 2018 in Taichung, taking place 2018 December 28th - 30th! Taiwan Gay Sports and the Taiwan Gay Development Movement Association have teamed up to unite gay sport activities with gay community events, in order to promote and increase the visibility of Taiwan's LGBT+ community. The upcoming LGBT+ Games in Taichung feature several sporting events that you can join including Tennis, Badminton, Ping-Pong, Basketball, Volleyball, Pool, Bowling, as well as several Track and Field competitions and special Mahjong and/or ESports events.

With your basic registration fee you will receive a commemorative gift bag, T-shirt and souvenir, along with access to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Carnival and Festival Games. You also have access to our free to join Team Games of Dodgeball, Relay Race and Rope Jumping.


Other special events you can pre-register for now include Athlete's Night (29 June), Lesbain Talking Night (29 June), and the Closing Party (30 June). The event promises to be a fun one, with something for everyone to enjoy! Be sure to register soon and show your support-- Taiwan has the admirable goal of winning over the bid to host 2026 Gay Games in Taiwan!
