It’s a new and social web out there

From the get-go, we all knew that this was coming. We knew that it was only a matter of time when people would rather not visit websites but instead heavily rely on social media --- preferably words that encapsulate everything in 140 words or less. Is it still a searchable type of web out there? Or is the Internet fast becoming a new and social web?

The answer lies on a chart recently published by the Silicon Alley Insider. It showed the seemingly meteoric rise of web users’ consumption in total minutes on Facebook. Compared to the rest of the web, which unfortunately experienced decline in terms of user consumption and visits, Facebook enjoyed (and most probably is still enjoying) a whopping 69 percent growth. So what does that mean? Apart from the fact that it shows that web users are now more into social media, it also shows that if you own a website or a blog, it might be a very good idea by now that you start optimizing for Facebook and other social networking websites. After all, the trend’s clear: if you’re not using the power of social media, be prepared to be at the end of the tail.

The truth of the matter is --- everything is interwoven into a deeper, more personal Internet these days. Even if you have the flashiest website and even if you have all the details down pat on your blog, all of those still have to be shared --- and with as much personal touch as possible. And this can be done through social media. You can interject your own thoughts and feelings, your own opinions and musings, regardless of how positive or negative these are, via social media. It’s all part of today’s Internet that’s growing and moving with each web user, no matter where he is in the world.
