2019 Asian Youth Orchestra Auditions are nearly here!

Auditions are nearly here, and we’re excited to see what talented musicians await us in 2019! Every Spring the Asian Youth Orchestra holds our yearly auditions for aspiring young musicians across Asia to join us for six weeks each summer. This includes a three-week Rehearsal Camp in Hong Kong, followed by a three-week international concert tour with celebrated conductors and solo artists. The upcoming 2019 tour includes performances in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Nanjing, Hong Kong, Taipei, Chiayi City, Seoul, Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Tokyo from 9 August to 1 September 2019.

This year we have some exciting news as the winner of the 2015 Leeds Piano Competition, the fabulous Anna Tsybuleva, will be returning to be our piano soloist for this summer's concert tour. And we are absolutely thrilled to announce that French-Swiss conductor Joseph Bastian will be joining us as a guest conductor.
Their program repertoire will include:
●   R. Strauss: Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks
●   Ravel: Piano Concerto in G
●   Brahms: Symphony No. 4

In addition we always happy to have our highly esteemed artistic director, Richard Pontzious, on board. His skills as conductor are simply unmatched. We are also excited to announce that the winner of the five international Violin Competitions, Moné Hattori, will be joining us as our violin soloist for this summer's concert tour.
Their program repertoire will include:
  • Rimsky-Korsakov: Capriccio Espagnol
  • Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1 in g minor
  • Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade

Our first audition stop is in Manila, on 19 January. From there our panel of jurors will be traveling to Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Seoul, Taipei, Tokyo, Osaka, Shanghai and finishing up in Beijing on 24 March. Candidates age 17-27 years old are welcome to audition, and will be expected to perform an orchestral excerpt and a piece of a composition of their choice.
