Save the date! Hong Kong is hosting its first ever International Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA) Tournament later this year! Organized by Out in HK, the same group behind the initial proposal for Gay Games Hong Kong 2022, the tournament will be conveniently timed alongside other LGBT+ events in the region. In a similar fashion to the Gay Games, GLTA sanctioned tournaments provide a safe space for LGBT+ players to enjoy playing competitive tennis in a diverse environment, where all are welcome.
The Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance is a non-profit international organization that manages and sanctions LGBT+ tennis circuits around the world. The goal of the organization is to promote access to tennis and diversity and acceptance within the sport.
We are currently waiting on final venue confirmation but the events are tentatively planned for the end of November 2017:
- Hong Kong GLTA tournament: 11/24-26 or 11/25-27 TBC ðŸ‡ðŸ‡°
- Hong Kong Pride: End of Nov TBC ðŸ‡ðŸ‡°
- Bangkok Pride Week: 11/27-12/3 🇹ðŸ‡
- Bangkok GLTA tournament 12/9-11 🇹ðŸ‡
A big Thank You to Out in HK’s tournament directors Daniel Ou, Alex Roberts, Andrew Matheson and Roddick Leung for organizing the Out in HK Tennis Open 2017 in April 2017, a huge milestone that led to GLTA selecting Hong Kong as a host city. The next milestone we hope to achieve is being able to announce that the 2022 Gay Games will be hosted for the first time ever in Asia- in Hong Kong!
Hong Kong’s one of a kind geographical location, sports program diverseness, and superior sports venues will provide opportunities for participants to excel at Gay Games Hong Kong 2022. It will be an empowering experience for LGBT+ athletes to participate on a level playing field with everyone else.
