The Asian Youth Orchestra offers young, talented musicians from across Asia the opportunity for advanced study, performance and international concert tours with celebrated artists and conductors. Each year the Asian Youth Orchestra recruits some of the finest pre-professional violin performers. It takes dedication and passion to learn how to play the violin, and be able to offer a stunning performance like the Asian Youth Orchestra musicians. The first sounds will obviously not be very pleasing, but with continued practice, you will be able to offer an improved performance. As a beginner, you can increase your odds of success by following some fundamental guiding tips.
Here are some of the tips you need to know when learning how to play the Violin.
SHIHO TAKASHIMA (Japan, violin), University of Yamanashi
"My father made this violin for me in 2005. It is my treasure and trusted partner. I am so honored to be able to bring it with me with AYO this year all around the world."
Have a Pre Determined Practice Schedule
It is good that you have a proper plan and adhere to it. Consider training at the same time every day, this can help you maintain your schedule so there are no excuses to skip your practice. A firm practicing schedule helps your skills grow and shows results faster. As you start to see results, you’ll be motivated to practice more and more-- your playing will become even more rewarding!
Finger Exercises
As a beginner, you should not neglect finger exercises, this helps to prepare your muscles in readiness for the practice and lessons. Many beginners do not recognize the importance of regular exercises and can end up developing acute and chronic repetitive motion injuries, which in turn, affect the learning cycle. It is also recommended that you take pauses regularly while practicing so that your muscles and fingers can stretch and avoid cramps-- which are some of the challenges that beginner violin players face.
LEIGH CELLANO (The Philippines, violin) What do you like about the AYO best?
"The harmony and the people. Even though we have language barriers, when we talk, it feels like through music we are one."
Keep Learning and Have Fun
When playing any musical instrument, you should continue exploring new types of music to enhance your mastery. Experiment with beats, melody, harmony, and song structure. Most importantly, have fun, stay relaxed and enjoy yourself!
