Director Appointment Announcement Gay Games Hong Kong 2022



The Management Team of Gay Games 11 Hong Kong 2022 (#GGHK2022) is pleased to announce the appointment of three directors joining the organisation immediately, leading important work streams and committees dedicated to delivering a successful Gay Games in 2022. The management team conducted an extensive recruitment process over several months and was pleased with the quality of applicants. All of those who were engaged in the process have been invited to join the growing team of volunteers dedicated to #GGHK2022.

Christina Lai​ joins as ​Director of Government Affairs​ succeeding Paul Choi who has stepped down from the role after leading the function through the pre and post bid period.  Paul will remain involved as a strategic advisor to GGHK2022. ​Christina brings excellent external relations, strategic communications and public affairs expertise to the role.  Her extensive experience in both public and private sectors will be valuable in the important work ahead to secure key partnerships between GGHKh2022 and our government and community partners.  Christina is a keen supporter of promoting diversity and inclusion in Hong Kong.

Scott Hessels​ has been appointed ​Director of Arts and Culture​. ​Scott has produced large scale exhibitions and cultural events and partnered with non-profits, is connected to an arts-based network of artists, curators, and venues, able to speak confidently and clearly in public, committed to ethical and inclusive conduct.   Scott enjoys hiking, swimming and cycling and has participated in AIDS fundraising rides in the US.

John Collingwood-Smith​ has been appointed ​Director of Ceremonies and Events/Creative Director and in this role,  John will serve as the Chief Creative Lead for GGHK2022.  John is currently Creative Director for Hong Kong Observation Wheel and AIA Carnival.  HIs extensive experience in Hong Kong and Asia spans leadership of projects such as the grand opening of Tai Kwun and working with Jack Morton agency, the global celebration of HSBC’s 150 anniversary.  John spent much of career in Australia working with major corporate partners developing creative content and consumer engagement. John started his professional career as an actor and dancer and has written, directed and produced numerous plays and performances for theatre and corporate events.
