Asian Youth Orchestra Auditions 2017



The moment all music lovers have been waiting for has finally arrived! Asian Youth Orchestra presents yet another year full of enthusiastic expectations from renowned artists in Asia. Every year the Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO) conducts its summer festival in Hong Kong by inviting over 100 members, consisting some of the finest young musicians across Asia, for a three-week summer festival in Hong Kong before then setting off on an international tour with celebrated conductors and solo artists.

This year's Summer Festival will run from 2 July to 24 July 2017, while the Global Performance Tour will be conducted from 25 July to 6 September. The Global Performance tour plans to include performances in USA, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Hong Kong, China, Japan and Taiwan. During the three-week Summer Festival, AYO members will study with an exceptional artist-faculty of principals from the Baltimore, Hong Kong, National, NDR Hamburg and Gewandhaus orchestras, Vienna Volksoper, the Bergamo Festival Orchestra & Teatro alla Scala (Italy), Brussels’ Monnaie Opera, the Triple Helix Trio, the Boston and Peabody music conservatories. For the 2017 auditions, applicants must be aged between 17-27 years and permanent residents of Asia.  
The repertoire will include:
  • R. Strauss: Don Juan
  • Beethoven: Symphony No. 7
  • Mahler: Symphony No. 1, "Titan"
  • Shostakovich: Violin concerto No. 1 in A minor
  • Sibelius: Violin concerto in D minor
