The summer of 2016 was a remarkable one for Out in HK, the local Hong Kong-based group behind the successful bid for Gay Games Hong Kong 2022. This was the time the idea of hosting the Gay Games in Hong Kong first came to light. A couple months later Douglas White, PRDA founder and Business Director became involved, and together with his team of social media experts, started generating fresh content including weekly blogs, daily posting on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Sina Weibo and WeChat as well as KOL outreach and Fan engagement and growth. As part of Gay Games Hong Kong 2022’s (GGHK2022) all volunteer team, PRDA helped get nearly 25,000 Facebook followers, and 13,000 Instagram followers with a monthly reach of over 1.5 million fans! In China the GGHK2022 Sina Weibo winning announcement post had over 67,000 readings!
The first step however, was the monumental task of preparing the Gay Games Hong Kong 2022 bid book… The 300 page book that resulted in Hong Kong being shortlisted to host the Gay Games in April 2017! This was a monumental step in the road leading to GGHK2022’s success. There was much time and effort put into the Bid Book’s preparation; from gathering and verifying intel and photos from the various sporting and cultural venues, to networking and gaining letters of recommendation, and finally spell checking, assembling and editing the entire book to be sent for printing. PRDA’s Bid Book contributions included working with GGHK2022 project manager David Wong (who did an amazing job organizing everything!), reviewing and editing the entire book as well as contributing written content.
After the bid book came the task of preparing for a Hong Kong site inspection visit by key members of the Gay Games Federation in May 2017 and a final presentation by the shortlisted cities in October 2017-- leading to the announcement of Hong Kong being officially chosen in huge ceremony in Paris, October 2017!
