Inaugural Love Gala Celebrates World AIDS Day

The inaugural Love Gala in Manila was a thrilling success! A night full of love and acceptance, with our own Kenny Kwok as one of the organisers and Gay Games Hong Kong 2022 Chairman Dennis in attendance for support. Since 1988, World AIDS Day has brought people together and paid tribute to the lives of people living with HIV (PLHIV) and those we have lost to HIV and AIDS. The Love Gala has joined the global movement and united individuals, top non-government organisations and charitable institutions geared towards HIV awareness, prevention and treatment for a night of breath-taking music, advocacy and fundraising, as well as heartfelt recognition of those who have made immeasurable difference in the lives of people living with HIV in the Philippines.

The Love Gala is the first event of its kind in Asia and featured world-renowned performers who are also HIV-AIDS awareness advocates, including Asia’s Songbird, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Asia's Phoenix Diva Morissette Amon, Hanggang singer Wency Cornejo, and respected theater actor Audie Gemora. Alongside these performances, five top Philippine designers-- Francis Libiran, Cary Santiago, Nat Manilag, Cheetah Rivera and John Herrera, showed their support with a visually stunning fashion show featuring key fashion pieces from their current fashion collections, and a few new ones designed just for the Love Gala fashion show! A part of the sales proceeds from the fashion pieces and mini auction is going towards HIV-AIDS education and charity.

The night was also dedicated to honouring the first-ever Ripple Awards winners-- 10 amazing people whose kindness, brilliance, and bravery have made a significant impact in spreading HIV-AIDS awareness and uplifted lives affected by the HIV-AIDS epidemic. This year’s winners are: Faustine Luell ‘Paji’ Tupas Angeles, Sherwin Baniqued, M.A. Buendia, Ana Theresia “Risa” Hontiveros-Baraquel, Jebsen Rederri Go Gamido, Enrique Tayag Katerina ‘Doc Kate’ Leyritana, Elena Felix, Roberto Figuracion, Angelina ‘Angie’ Mead King.

The Love Gala in Manila was a powerful event and super well organised! Well done Kenny Kwok in bringing leading charitable institutions together  to change the world and end the stigma of HIV & AIDS. This was a truly amazing Gala Event to celebrate World AIDS Day.
